This page shows the Disassembly, Cleaning and Repair of a Mikuni carb 15003-2131 on a Kawasaki FC540V-CS00 engine.
#1 shows the starting point before any Disassembly, Cleaning and Repair . The air cleaner cover is removed by unscrewing two winged screws. The air cleaner cover will now lift out of place. The air filter can now be lifted out. The air cleaner base lifts out with a slight tilt upward away from engine. Be careful not to damage the seal between the base and the intake pipe. The parts may be stuck together.
Check to see that the intake pipe seal (O-ring) is in good shape (see Photo 2). If you don't see it in the groove on the intake pipe it may be stuck to the bottom of the air cleaner base.
Remove two nuts from the intake pipe studs, move the grounding wire aside and slide the intake pipe away from the carburetor and set it aside.
Note the positions of the throttle and choke links as in #3 and #4.
Disconnect the fuel line and the wire connector at the after-fire solenoid (#5).
Note the position of the throttle link spring (#6), and remove it from the hole in the throttle lever using a loop of wire or needle nose pliers. (#7).
Separate the carb from the insulator block (#7 and #10) if they are stuck together. The insulator is brittle plastic and can crack or break rather easily. Slide the carburetor off the studs.
Hold the throttle and choke links upward, tilt the carb clockwise, and slide the carb off both links (#8).
#9 shows the gasket between the carb and the insulator block (#10 ).
There is also a gasket between the insulator block and the engine block (#11). Another gasket goes between the carb and the intake pipe.
